Hendriks & James was established in 2002. Numbering many leading Dutch law firms as well as the European Court of Justice among its clients, it frequently translates texts for major, highly publicised cases in various branches of the law.
Hendriks & James prides itself on its prompt delivery of accurate, reliable translations which are grounded in the relevant legislation and case law. All translations are dealt with by a combination of native English speakers and Dutch translators with legal qualifications.

Nynke Hendriks established Hendriks & James together with Ian James Gaukroger in 2002.
Nynke is an experienced legal translator from Dutch to English and is fluent in both languages. Possessing a thorough working knowledge of all branches of the law, she was for many years a translator for the Dutch Ministries of Finance and Justice.
Nynke studied Dutch law at the University of Amsterdam, specialising in the law of intellectual property and writing her LLM dissertation on patent law. Before that, Nynke obtained a BA (Hons) in Art History from the University of Essex and an MA in Hispanic Studies from King’s College, University of London. She is listed in the register of certified translators and interpreters (“Wbtv”) of the Dutch Ministry of Justice.
Ian James Gaukroger established Hendriks & James together with Nynke Hendriks in 2002.
A British citizen, he has been living in the Netherlands for twenty-three years. Ian has considerable translation experience of texts dealing with various branches of law, as well as subjects ranging from music to marketing and information technology. In 1999 he completed an extensive course in legal translation. Since then he has specialised in legal translations from Dutch to English. Ian is listed in the register of certified translators and interpreters (“Wbtv”) of the Dutch Ministry of Justice.
Before moving to Amsterdam, Ian obtained a Master of Music Degree from the University of Rochester, New York. As a professional pianist he has performed with many prestigious ensembles and orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Suzanne Knauff is a project manager at Hendriks & James.
After obtaining her BA and MA English Language and Culture (cum laude) at the University of Amsterdam in 2009 she worked as a translator Dutch/English. Whilst working as a translator she completed a BA and an MA Egyptology (cum laude) in Classics and Ancient Civilizations at Leiden University in 2013. As an Egyptologist she occasionally gives lectures at research institutes and museums. Suzanne receives in-house training as a legal translator and editor and recently completed the course on IP law for legal translators.
Suzanne runs the office in Amsterdam together with Dorine and will gladly help you with any queries.
Dorine Stevens is a project manager at Hendriks & James. Together with Suzanne she is the first point of contact for both clients and translators. She also works as a trainee translator and editor, and she is listed in the register of certified translators and interpreters (“Wbtv”).
Dorine obtained a Bachelor’s degree in International Communications at the Maastricht School of Translation and Interpreting and, in 2013, she graduated with a Master’s degree in English Literature and Culture from the University of Amsterdam. Following her studies Dorine joined De Brauw Balckstone Westbroek as a Trainee Translator and gained experience with translating legal documents.
